The army on Wednesday paid tributes to Sepoy Ajay Kumar, 25, who attained martyrdom during a counter-terrorist operation on Tuesday in Tral region wherein four terrorists were eliminated.

In a solemn ceremony at Badami Bagh Cantt, Lt Gen AK Bhatt, Chinar Corps Commander, and other ranks, paid homage to the martyr on behalf of a proud nation, said army spokesman Colonel Rajesh Kalia.

In a show of solidarity, representatives from other security agencies also joined in paying their last respects to the martyr.

Sepoy Ajay Kumar sustained bullet injury during the operation in Laam forest in Tral of Pulwama district. He was provided immediate first-aid and evacuated to the 92 Base Hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.

Sepoy Ajay Kumar had joined the Army in 2013. He belonged to Panjola village of Pachhad tehsil in Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh and is survived by his parents and a brother.

The mortal remains of the martyr were flown for last rites to his native place, where he will be cremated with full military honours.
