Four people were injured after a shooting on Monday evening at the NBA championship celebration for the Toronto Raptors, police said.

According to reports, Canadian PM Justin Trudeau was also present at the celebration around the time of the shooting. However, he escaped unhurt.

During a press conference, Toronto Police chief Mark Saunders said, “They have arrested three people and seized two firearms. But it was unclear if any of the suspects were among the four injured”.

He further said, “With all the resources that were with us, the apprehensions were done incredibly quickly after the incident itself”.

However, none of the victims suffered life-threatening injuries.

Police spokesperson Allison Sparkers said the investigation was still on when asked if the attack was a targeted shooting or related to terrorism.

Toronto mayor John Tory said in a statement: “I thanked the police for their quick response to today’s most unfortunate shooting.”

Toronto is relatively a safe region. But in 2018, the city experienced a surge in gun violence with the number of homicides caused by shootings going up significantly.
