The US Congress narrowly averted a government shutdown with the passage of a bipartisan funding bill, but the process laid bare the persistent challenges of governance in an era of heightened partisanship and external influences.
US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson is scheduled to arrive in Pakistan on Tuesday to discuss joint efforts against terrorism and expanding economic ties, authorities said here on Monday.
During his one-day trip, Tillerson will hold talks with Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Foreign Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif and Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa, reports Radio Pakistan.

Tillerson is visiting Pakistan on Asif’s invitation. Pakistan-US relations, Afghanistan and regional security will be discussed during the meetings.

Tillerson started his week-long five-nation tour on October 20 from Saudi Arabia that would also take him to India, Qatar and Switzerland, reports Xinhua news agency.
His visit to Islamabad came after a three-day US visit of his Pakistani counterpart earlier this month.
Asif met high-ranking American officials, discussing bilateral relations and US President Donald Trump’s new strategy for South Asia.
