US election could decide fate of 70,000 Afghans
The Taliban, an ultraconservative Islamic political group, retook control of Kabul a little more than three years ago, dashing many Afghans’ hopes for a tolerant, democratic government.
India has emphasised the importance of the establishment of an inclusive and representative government that respects the rights of all Afghans and ensures equal rights for women and girls to participate in all aspects of Afghan society, including access to higher education.
India, on Thursday, said it has noted with concern reports about the Taliban banning women from the right to education in Afghanistan, saying it has always supported women’s education in the war-torn nation.
”We have noted with concern the reports in this regard India has consistently supported the cause of female education in Afghanistan. We have emphasised the importance of the establishment of an inclusive and representative government that respects the rights of all Afghans and ensures the equal rights of women and girls to participate in all aspects of Afghan society, including access to higher education,” Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson, Arindam Bagchi said at a media briefing.

He recalled the UN Security Council Resolution 2593, which reaffirms the importance of upholding human rights including those of women and also calls for full, equal and meaningful participation of women.

On Tuesday, the Taliban, in a notification, reportedly ordered the suspension of higher education for female students in Afghanistan.
