Delhi Customs foil two incidents of gold smuggling at IGI
According to the Customs, in the first incident, on December 15, two male passengers arriving from Riyadh (Saudi Arabia) were intercepted by customs officials based on a tip-off.
According to Joint Commissioner of Customs, Praveen Kumar Bali, the Indian passenger, who arrived at IGI airport Terminal-3 from Riyadh on flight number XY-329.
An Indian passenger has been apprehended by the Customs official at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport along with smuggled gold worth around Rs 70 lakh. The customs official recovered over one and a half kilograms of gold from the passenger.
According to Joint Commissioner of Customs, Praveen Kumar Bali, the Indian passenger, who arrived at IGI airport Terminal-3 from Riyadh on flight number XY-329. He was intercepted for random checking as he crossed the green channel. During the checking of his baggage with the X-ray machine, some suspicious images inside the mixer emerged.

The customs team dismantled the mixer and recovered 1573 grams of gold, kept hidden inside the mixer machine in the form of two cylindrical metal pieces. The recovered gold worth around Rs. 70 lakhs.

The passenger has been put under arrest and recovered gold has been seized under Customs Act. Further investigation is being carried out.
