The Haryana Congress has sought action against those Haryana government officials who during the recent Republic Day Parade at Panchkula shared the stage with former Director General of Police (DGP) SPS Rathore who had been convicted for molesting a teenager.

Addressing the media, Haryana Pradesh Mahila Congress president Sumitra Chauhan sought action against those government officials who invited the controversial ex-top cop to the event.

Chauhan said, “Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar should take action against the officials responsible for the blunder, otherwise he should apologise for what happened.”

Convicted in the Ruchika Girhotra molestation case, Rathore recently shared the stage with other dignitaries of the state during the district-level Republic Day celebrations at Panchkula. He was sitting in the front row at the R-day parade along with the Superintendent of Police.

Fourteen-year-old girl Ruchika Girhotra, a tennis player of the Haryana Lawn Tennis Association (HLTA), committed suicide on 12 December 1993, accusing Rathore of harassing her and her family.
In 2009, a Central Bureau Investigation (CBI) special court convicted Rathore in the Ruchika molestation case, sentencing him to six months imprisonment and imposing a fine of Rs 1,000.
