At least 53 people were killed and over 60 others injured following a massive 6.8-magnitude earthquake in Dingri County in Xigaze City in the Tibet Autonomous Region on Tuesday.
According to the China Earthquake Networks Centre, the epicentre of the earthquake was located at 28.5 degree North latitude and 87.45 deg East longitude, with a depth of 10 kilometres.

Following the quake, the Xizang region witnessed several aftershocks in the range of magnitude 4.9 and 4.3.

Tremors of the earthquake were also felt in Nepal and Indian states of Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and national capital Delhi.
Chinese President Xi Jinping expressed his condolences over the deaths and ordered swift rescue efforts to save lives and minimise casualties.
Rescue teams have been mobilised towards the affected area and relief and rescue efforts are underway.
Videos on social media showed significant damage to roads and buildings. The death toll is likely to rise further as rescue teams continue to extract people from under the debris.
