For its forthcoming open beta release of Nothing OS 1.5, which is based on Android 13, Nothing began accepting registrations of participants on December 1.
This happened when the company made it clear that a final build wouldn’t be made available to owners of the Nothing Phone (1) this year.

Today, people who signed up to receive the first beta have begun receiving it. With Nothing OS 1.5, users get a new Weather app with a distinctive Nothing UI, up to 50% faster app loading times, more colour options for matching third-party apps to your wallpaper, a new QR code scanner in Quick Settings, a preview of the clipboard at the bottom of the screen for quick edits before pasting, and a fresh look for Media Control.

A new self-repair feature that keeps Nothing Phone (1) running like it’s new by clearing unused cache and expired system dumps, better Quick Settings with new network and Bluetooth device pop-ups, a new UI for volume control with easily adjustable sliders without the need to unlock the screen, and an improved Quick Settings are also included. Additionally, there is the ability to close active background apps from the notification area.
The beta participants will also receive everything else that Google has included in Android 13, such as the new photo picker, the new notification permission, the new media permissions, and support for utilising various apps in various languages.
It is expected that the company will release Nothing OS 1.5 for all by next year with a stable build.
