By 2016-17, Facebook had designed a business model that aimed at maximising the ‘user engagement’, that is how much time users spent on their platform, and started collecting data on what they liked and shared.
The same feature was earlier introduced for iPhone users earlier this year. With this feature, the company aims to provide an extra layer of security to its users.
In a bid to protect users’ content from getting accessed by others or hackers, WhatsApp on Thursday introduced fingerprint lock on supported phones.
Users updating the latest version of the app will now be able to scan their fingerprints to open up the Facebook-owned platform.

“Today we’re introducing similar authentication, allowing you to unlock the app with your fingerprint, on supported Android phones,” the micro-blogging platform said in a statement.
To enable it, tap Settings, go to Account, then Privacy and Fingerprint Lock.
Turn on Unlock with fingerprint, and confirm your fingerprint.
