When it comes to sharing music with friends, Bluetooth speakers are the most convenient. There is a wide range of products available to choose from. Similarly, iBall recently introduced a new Bluetooth speaker in the market called, ‘Musi Twins’.
The Musi Twins has been recognized with the prestigious, ‘Red Dot Award 2019,’ under the Best Product Design category.
Unlike the normal Bluetooth speakers, these are two individual speakers that are connected with each other truly wirelessly and holds water-resistant capabilities. The best thing is, it can also be joined as a single unit. So should you put your money on it?
We have rigorously tested and rummaged possibilities to understand the limitation and stronghold of the device.
iBall Musi Twins design and specifications
When it comes to the physical appearance, the product is designed for the Indian millennials and comes in three different colours Red, Black and Green (it is more towards peacock green). The fabric texture and silicon rubber-feel casing give a strong grip on the speakers.
Each speaker comes equipped with their own power buttons and charging ports. To make the speakers waterproof its is a must that the USB protective layer is closed properly. Apart from the power buttons, each speaker sports volume rocker buttons. The twins can be separated and used as individual devices. To do this simply long-press the Volume Up button on the Master speaker.
If you want to pair them again simply long-press the volume buttons Up and Down at the same time on one speaker and Viola you got yourself a stereo speaker.
The whole unit weighs over 850 grams. Both units have in-built microphones with wireless Bluetooth calling. The Musi Twins are also IPX7 certified, which makes them waterproof up to a depth of 1 meter.
Both the speakers contain a total of 3,000 mAh battery and supports 4.2 Bluetooth version. The total output is 15 W RMS and the noise ratio is above or equivalent to 75db. (All the figures should be divided in two as it is two speakers).
Once recharged, these speakers can run up to 12 hours and the charging time is 3 hours minimum. However, It takes more than that considering you are using it and changing at the same time.
iBall Musi Twins Performance
Press the power button together on both the speakers to power the Musi Twins up and connect it with your device. This is a classic Master and Slave format. In our case, we initially paired with the iPhone to see how it performs with a smartphone, and the process was too easy. The LED lights pulsate based on the music being played and we found it to be cool. You can turn off these white pulsating lights. (Refer Manual)
The speaker buttons are firm and make it easy to switch on to different songs.
The device tells you that it is being turned on and connecting to the device. It also tells you that the volume is maximum or if it is low on battery. Initially, we found it to be cool, but later we were a bit annoyed because it interrupts the music and media play.
If you like and enjoy listening to music then iBall Musi Twins is perfect for you. We played music ranging from Ed Sheeran to Eminem – Claude Debussy to Tiesto we kind of enjoyed the sound. The device is good for a small space or for people who do not like too much loud music. We felt the thump, the bass at higher volume is amazing but, if you are someone who enjoys loud music, like metal, hard rock then we would not suggest it to you.
Music formats like AC3, AAC, WMA, Ogg-Vorbis, etc are well supported. However, FLAC, Dolby-ATMOS, Dolby 5.1, 7.1, DTS, DTS:X have issues as it tones down the impact to mp3 format.
Later from the iPhone, we switched to a laptop and used the device as two speakers and it worked fine too. However, the sound was not as much good as it was earlier, especially while watching a fight sequence during a movie.
At one instance, the (fully charged) master speaker, followed by the slave turned off on its own. We had to turn it on manually. The rest of the time, the speakers worked amazing well and gave us the best results.
Verdict
These speakers are available on Amazon for Rs. 4,990, and it’s worth the cost. When holding the device, we felt that it was sturdy and was made to be carried in your bag pack. Music did not distort at higher volumes, and the bass worked fine too. iBall gives only a charging cable and no plug, which is a drag.
It does take around 3 hours to get fully charged but easily lasts for 7-8 hours continuously. The fabric texture creates an illusion of the presence of a speaker on all sides, but it is only on the front. (tilted-back position)
The Bluetooth calling also worked great, at some point our callers were not able to listen to us, which we feel like it was a network issue.
