Google, Facebook, Microsoft are all in for ‘Artificial Intelligence’, and on Wednesday, AI was the main focus at Google’s event, be it Google Lens or the all new Google Clips AI-powered smart camera.

Alongside the launch of new Pixel 2 smartphones, new DayDream View VR headset, Pixelbook and more, Google launched a tiny smart GoPro-like camera called the Google Clips.

The really compact Google Clips camera can fit in your palm and weighs just about 60 grams.

Google Clips uses a 12MP sensor with f/2.4 aperture, 130-degree wide-angle lens and 1.55 µm pixel size. The company says it can record the moving image using machine learning technique. There is a Google Clips app on Android and iOS, which lets the camera pair and sync using Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. The camera has a tiny button upfront to record and shoot.

The camera literally justifies the name ‘Clips’ as it can be clipped on to your shirt, table, chair etc. It can record the moving image using machine learning technique without your involvement. Google says that it will automatically record a seven-second video as a live image. It syncs with the Google Clips app on Android and iOS using Bluetooth LE and WiFi Direct which helps in quickly recording spontaneous moments.

The onboard storage on Google Clips is 16GB and Google says that it will offer up to 3 hours of smart capture. It includes USB-C port for charging built-in camera battery.

As of now, Google Clips will be compatible with Pixel smartphones, Samsung Galaxy S7/ S8 series of devices, and iPhone 6 & above models.

The Google Clips camera is priced at $249 in the U.S. There isn’t a launch timeline as of now, because Google says it will “soon” go on sale in the U.S.
