Facebook is getting very serious about videos lately. After launching a host of video-centric features over the last year, Facebook is now reportedly testing 4K quality of videos that can be played on the platform.

According to a TechCrunch report, Facebook is testing 4K video uploads and viewing using 2160p UHD-1 Ultra-High-Definition video standard. Some of the FB pages and profiles said to have given the ability to post 4K videos, as well as watch them.

“After some super HD videos started popping up on the social network, Facebook now confirms to TechCrunch it’s testing 4K video uploads and viewing using the 2160p UHD-1 Ultra-High-Definition Television standard. Some Pages and profiles can now post 4K videos to Facebook, as well as watch them,” notes report.

Video hosting platform YouTube has been working with 4K video since 2010 with 4K live streaming rolling out last year.

Facebook already supports 4K resolutions in its live 360 videos, but its standard videos have long been capped at 720p. The push to higher resolution video comes after considering Facebook’s push into original content with several original shows coming to the Watch tab.
