In 2022 there were 1.05 billion tonnes of food waste generated (including inedible parts), amounting to 132 kg per capita and nearly one-fifth of all food available to consumers.
The theme of the biennial event is "Madhya Pradesh – the future ready state". The programme will be "Carbon Neutral" and "Zero Waste".
The quality and quantity of waste generated in the state does not remain the same through all seasons, due to massive floating population due to huge influx of tourists.
