The first round of counting of the Presidential poll on Thursday showed that Draupadi Murmu is far ahead of her counterpart Yashwant Sinha.
The counting of votes to elect India's 15th President will take place on Thursday. The counting will begin at Parliament House at 11 am.
The leaders said Sinha’s candidature was supported by the entire Opposition. Sinha filed his nomination papers three days after Murmu, the NDA candidate.
Polling for the Presidential election will begin on Monday in the Parliament and respective state Assemblies to elect a new President.
The presidential candidate, who was in Chandigarh for his poll campaign, said the election for the 15th President is taking place under highly troubled conditions. "Never before, not even during the Emergency in the mid-1970s, did our Republic face as many simultaneous threats to the Constitution. The economy is badly mismanaged, creating unprecedented price rise and unemployment. Our democracy is in grave danger," he said.
The polling for the Presidential election will take place on 18 July, 2022 in Room No. 63, First Floor, Parliament House, New Delhi, and in the State Capitals, an official statement said.
After the nomination, the veteran leader said this is not a fight between two people, but two ideologies. Only the person who can fulfill the responsibility of this post should go to Rashtrapati Bhavan. There is no point in having a puppet president, otherwise, there will be no use for this post.
He will also begin his campaign to meet MPs and MLAs. On Friday, Sinha had telephoned Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh's offices seeking their support for the poll. He also wrote a letter to all the leaders of the opposition parties.
Sinha, on Wednesday, said that the leaders of the other ideology are intent on throttling the Constitution and "making a mockery of the people's mandate in elections."
"We are going to file the nomination for the Presidential elections on 27th June at 11.30 am," said Pawar at the Opposition meeting.
