WPI inflation for April shoots to 1.26 pc at 13-month-high

The government’s data attribute the positive rate of inflation to an increase in prices of food articles, crude petroleum & natural gas, electricity, machinery & equipment and motor vehicles, trailers & semi-trailers, etc.
The Wholesale Price Index for primary articles declined by 0.57 per cent to 173.0 (provisional) from 174.0 for the month of January 2023. The prices of food articles (0.45 per cent) increased in February 2023 as compared to January 2023.
India's wholesale price index-based inflation eased to 10.7 per cent in September as against 12.41 per cent recorded in the previous month, as per the government data released on Friday. Despite the decline, Whole Price Index (WPI) based inflation has, however, remained in double digits for the 18th month in a row.
Inflation in fuel and power basket eased to 32.83 per cent during June, against 37.61 per cent in May.
On a sequential basis, the month over month change in WPI index for May 2021 as compared to April was 0.76 per cent.
Inflation in food articles in March was 3.24 per cent as prices of pulses, fruits and paddy hardened.
Food inflation in January stood at (-) 2.8 percent, against (-) 1.11 percent in the previous month.
Food inflation in November stood at 3.94 per cent, against 6.37 per cent in the previous month.
In the manufactured products category, inflation stood at 2.12 per cent in October, compared to 1.61 per cent in September.
