The State Government has taken initiative to sanction at least 20 Women Police Station (WPS) at sub division level shortly. Of them at least six WPS will be set up in North Bengal as per the proposals initiated by authorities concerned.
The total sanctioned police force for all states and Union Territories, including armed police, is 26,23,225 and there are 5,31,737 vacancies.
The project will be implemented as a Centrally Sponsored Scheme with Centre and State sharing the funding in 60:40 ratio.
