The Winter Session of the Parliament is set to commence from November 25 and will go on till December 20, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju announced here on Tuesday.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has asserted that the mass suspension of the Opposition MPs from both Houses of Parliament during the Winter Session seems to be "predetermined and premeditated by" the BJP-led government at the Centre.
Briefing newspersons on the Winter Session of Parliament which concluded on Thursday night, he said, "They themselves came and said to suspend them. Congress Party has such a low-level strategy."
Speaking at a ‘Save Democracy’ protest at Jantar Mantar, the Congress leader said, “They are those who call themselves patriots… ‘Hawa nikal gayi unki…’ (Their bravado had gone into the thin air…) We saw it all.”
''Obstruction and disruption of proceedings as parliamentary practice or option are antithetical to democratic values,” said Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankharm, who assumed the charge of Rajya Sabha chairman on Wednesday.
Noting that the winter session was important because the country was moving forward in the journey of ‘Amrit Kaal’, Modi said the two houses were meeting at a time when India has got the opportunity to preside over the G-20.
With the Winter Session of Parliament set to commence from Wednesday, as many as 23 bills are likely to be taken up during the session.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to interact with the media on Wednesday ahead of the first day of the Winter Session of Parliament.
The winter session of the Parliament will begin on Wednesday. The session will have a total of 17 working days.
