The just-concluded Winter Session of Parliament was unproductive and the least effective in over a year. It ran from November 25 to December 20 and saw frequent disruptions, including protests and arguments.
Himachal Pradesh Assembly was adjourned sine die concluding the Winter Session at Tapovan (Dharamshala) on Saturday.
Before the two Houses were adjourned, the two important bills relating to 'One Nation, One Election' were referred to a Joint Parliamentary Committee.
Trinamul Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, attending the winter session of parliament, has written on his X-handle: “The BJP’s brazen attempt to introduce a CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT BILL today, WHILE THE CONSTITUTION DEBATE IS STILL UNDERWAY in Parliament, is nothing short of an unashamed attack on democracy.”
The brief session, for a week, is expected to be stormy one with Sambhal violence to take a centrestage between the BJP and Samajwadi Party.
Introduced in August this year, the Bill seeks to increase the option for nominees per bank account to four, from existing one, among others.
In a bid to break the logjam, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla had called a meeting of floor leaders of political parties in his chamber on Monday afternoon.
Since the Session commenced on November 25, proceedings of both Houses have been washed out amid opposition uproar.
The first week of Winter Session was washed out after no significant business could be conducted as the Opposition persisted with protests, demanding discussion on various issues including Adani bribery charge and Sambhal violence.
