Waterways to Success

Being a state with a great network of rivers and expansive water bodies, West Bengal boasts of one of the longest navigable waterway networks in the country, with approximately 4,593 kilometers of rivers and canals, of which 97 per cent are navigable.

Curbs on shops, halls, outdoor events eased

A notification in this regard was issued by state chief secretary HK Dwivedi today. Outdoor activities have been disallowed since the second Covid wave hit the state. The state government has now clarified that all outdoor government programmes will be allowed by maintaining physical distancing and protocols.

Value in unvalued trees

Wanton destruction of trees is commonplace in India by the state, by builders, industries and even godmen of all kinds. It is, therefore, significant that Mr Justice Rajasekhar Mantha of the Calcutta High Court chose to describe the act as a heinous crime and, in his order, permitted the compounding of the offence upon payment of ?40 crores to the state of West Bengal, which took the property developers (petitioner and/or the owner of the property M/s Emaar India Limited) to court.
