A heated session of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024 resulted in the suspension of several opposition members, including TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee, DMK's A Raja, AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi.
They accused Jagdambika Pal of taking unilateral decisions and 'arbitrarily' inviting those people and organisations, who are not stakeholders in this matter, to present their views.
Such threats cannot be taken lightly, Mr Surya said, and requested the Speaker to tell the JPC members to adhere to Parliamentary norms.
A 31-member JPC on the Waqf Amendment Bill was announced in the last session of Parliament following demands by Opposition parties.
