The Congress on Saturday launched a scathing attack at Prime Minister Narendra Modi (PM) and Home Minister (HM) Amit Shah on National Voters’ Day, saying the independence of the Election Commission (EC) has been “severely compromised” by them.
The Congress on Friday filed a complaint with the Election Commission of India (ECI) alleging serious and grave inconsistencies in the data relating to the polling and counting processes for the recently concluded assembly elections in Maharashtra.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) should release the video footage of polling stations where the voting purportedly increasedleading to a sudden and major increase in 76 lakh votes, Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Nana Patole has demanded.
Voting began at 7 am on Wednesday for the single-phase Maharashtra assembly elections and will conclude at 6 pm. Polling is taking place across 288 assembly constituencies.
This could be the lowest polling percentage in this elections in UP as in earlier phases the voting was recorded between 58 % to 60%.
The newly included areas of Rajouri and Poonch districts, which were earlier in the Jammu Lok Sabha constituency, witnessed brisk polling.
Kejriwal and his wife Sunita Kejriwal cast their votes during the sixth phase of the Lok Sabha polls. Apart from Sunita Kejriwal, the Delhi Chief Minister was accompanied by his two children and father.
The Commission and its officials across the states have been disseminating voter turnout data in the best possible manner, taking into account statutory considerations, it said.
According to the poll body, West Bengal recorded the highest voter turnout (77.99 per cent) followed by Jharkhand (61.41 per cent), Uttar Pradesh (52.02 per cent), Odisha (59.60 per cent), Jammu and Kashmir (51.35 per cent), Bihar (52.24 per cent), Haryana (55.93 per cent), and Delhi (53.73 per cent).
