The Election Commission on Thursday said the overall voter turnout in the Lok Sabha elections was recorded at 65.79 per cent.
West Bengal recorded the highest turnout at 69.89 per cent, followed by Jharkhand at 69.03 per cent and Himachal Pradesh at 67.39 per cent.
Varanasi Lok Sabha seat registered 56.35 per cent polling.
As per the ECI, Jharkhand is leading the voter turnout charts at 60.14 per cent till 3 pm.
The voting in 1.92 lakh polling stations that commenced amid tight security at 7 am concluded at 6 pm.
At 51.87 per cent, West Bengal recorded the highest turnout of votes, followed by Madhya Pradesh at 48.52 per cent.
West Bengal and Madhya Pradesh recorded the highest turnout of votes in the first four hours, while Jammu and Kashmir and Maharashtra saw the lowest.
Polling started at 7 AM and ended at 6 PM. At 9 AM the voting percentage in these 13 Lok Sabha seats was11.67, which rose to 27 12% at 11 AM, 39.68% at 1 PM , 48.41% at 3 PM and 56.35 % at 5PM.
The eight seats include Indore, Khandwa, Mandsaur, Dewas (SC), Ujjain (SC), Dhar (ST), Ratlam (ST) and Khargone (ST). They are spread across 16 districts and 64 state assembly constituencies mostly in the Malwa-Nimar region of MP.
