The Election Commission on Thursday said the overall voter turnout in the Lok Sabha elections was recorded at 65.79 per cent.
West Bengal recorded the highest turnout at 69.89 per cent, followed by Jharkhand at 69.03 per cent and Himachal Pradesh at 67.39 per cent.
Varanasi Lok Sabha seat registered 56.35 per cent polling.
As per the ECI, Jharkhand is leading the voter turnout charts at 60.14 per cent till 3 pm.
West Bengal recorded the highest turnout at 73 per cent, Ladakh 67.15 per cent and Jharkhand 63 percent.
According to the poll body, Ladakh recorded the highest voter turnout (61.26 per cent) followed by West Bengal (62.72 per cent), Jharkhand (53.90 per cent), Uttar Pradesh (47.55 per cent), Odisha (48.95 per cent), Jammu and Kashmir (44.90 per cent), Bihar (45.33 per cent) and Maharashtra (38.77 per cent).
The polling is currently underway for 49 parliamentary constituencies spread over six states and two Union Territories.
A bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, Justice JB Pardiwala and Justice Manoj Misra gave a week’s time to the poll panel to file its reply and posted the matter for hearing on May 24, 2024.
The ECI has taken an array of initiatives to motivate voters to cast their vote. For this, it has taken the help of influencers and celebrities, and telecom service providers.
