The Election Commission on Thursday said the overall voter turnout in the Lok Sabha elections was recorded at 65.79 per cent.
West Bengal recorded the highest turnout at 69.89 per cent, followed by Jharkhand at 69.03 per cent and Himachal Pradesh at 67.39 per cent.
Varanasi Lok Sabha seat registered 56.35 per cent polling.
As per the ECI, Jharkhand is leading the voter turnout charts at 60.14 per cent till 3 pm.
The contest was triangular between Tashi Gyalson (BJP), Tsering Namgyal (Congress) and Haji Haneefa Jaan (independent candidate from Kargil).
Till the last reports received here from Odisha Chief Electoral Officer, Bargarh LS constituency polled the highest 66.14 per cent votes followed by Sundargarh with 62.36 per cent, Balangir (61.35 pc), Kandhamal 57.46 pc and Aska (55.65 pc).
One voter each from these villages was called from Bengaluru and Delhi at government expenses to cast their votes.
The Ladakh constituency had recorded 71.05 per cent polling in 2019, 71.40 per cent in 2014 and 73.52 per cent in 2004.
Polling was by and large peaceful with some reports of minor clashes in Fatehpur . In Rae Bareli and Amethi , Congress and BJP complained against each other for rigging. There were several booths where voters boycotted due to local development issues.
