Earlier, Sarin has held varied appointments including DG Medical Services (Navy), DG Medical Services (Air) and Director and Commandant of Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune. Alumni of AFMC, Sarin was commissioned into the Armed Forces Medical Services in December 1985.
Prior to taking over as Vice Chief of the Naval Staff, V Adm Tripathi served as the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Naval Command.
Speaking on the occasion, retiring Admiral Singh said, "During the last 30 months crisis of Covid and Galwan, the Indian Navy did its best to deal with the situation. The Indian Navy is always available to help citizens and the nation."
Commissioned into the Indian Navy in 1987, Admiral Swaminathan is a recipient of the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal and Vishisht Seva Medal, and has held several key operational, staff and training appointments in his naval career.
