The debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump offered American voters a glimpse into two contrasting visions for their country's future, marked by intense exchanges on key issues.
'While this represents the end of the greatest first term in presidential history, it's only the beginning of our fight to Make America Great Again,' he said.
As Biden appealed to Americans to "turn the page" on the divisive contest, electors met across all US states to seal his win, with California pushing Biden over the majority of 270 votes.
"This election was rigged. This election was a total fraud," he claimed, again without backing this up. "We won the election easily."
Biden is expected to reverse the move of the outgoing Trump administration to revoke work permits to the spouses of H-1B visas, which had adversely impacted a large number of Indian families in the US.
Already trailing Democrat Joe Biden in the all-important, state-by-state Electoral College vote tally -- the handwriting on the wall was becoming impossible to ignore.
'Because every little girl watching tonight sees that this is a country of possibilities,' she said.
As trickling returns from Pennsylvania and three other states made Trump's path to a second term increasingly unlikely, Biden repeated that he believed he would win but said he would wait for the process to complete.
Democratic challenger Biden is edging towards the presidency after pulling ahead in the key states of Pennsylvania and Georgia.
