UNMOGIP replaced the UN Commission for India and Pakistan (UNCIP) originally established in January 1948 to investigate and mediate the dispute between the two countries on the state of Jammu and Kashmir.

Peacekeeping operations under the UN add to their legitimacy and limit the implications for the host country's sovereignty. Peacekeepers from outside a conflict, open doors that would otherwise remain closed for collective peace efforts. Peacekeeping prevents the resumption of fighting following a conflict. It does not address the underlying causes of violence, nor does it work to create societal change, as peacebuilding does. Peacekeeping strives to create conditions that favour lasting peace

In the end, it’s about money

The core climate finance issues at this COP, among others, were the delivery of $100 billion yearly fund by 2020, a new quantified goal to mobilise from 2025 taking $100 billion as the floor, adaptation finance, and finance for Loss and Damage
