Preserving Heritage

India, a land of cultural consciousness, great traditions, and rich heritage, is home to 43 UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Among these, 34 are cultural, seven are natural, and one, Kanchenjunga National Park, is of mixed type.

City celebrates UNESCO’s recognition

Participants ranging from Durga Puja organisers to artisans, and people's representatives to common men and women walked the 2 km distance from Academy of Fine Arts to Dorina Crossing in the heart of the city in a colourful rally carrying ‘Thank You UNESCO’ placards amid sounds of the 'dhak', the traditional drum inseparable from Bengal’s biggest festival.

Later, the team visited the Visva-Bharati traditional places of worship including the Kanch Mandir Upsana Griha, Santiniketan Bari (the first building that housed Debendranath Tagore and his family after Bhubandanga was bought by him), Uttarayan complex, Kala Bhavana, Sangeet Bhavana

Unesco report highlights pathetic condition of Bengal schools

Bengal's education department sources said that the indication of this pathetic state of affairs first became evident a couple of years ago when the Union Human Resources Ministry forwarded some queries on the student to teacher ratio in the schools of the state.
