Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday flagged off the Vande Bharat Express from New Delhi Railway Station in the presence of Railway Minister Piyush Goyal and other senior officials from the railways.
Vande Bharat Express will run between Delhi and Varanasi, covering the 770 km distance in around 8 hours; commercial run begins on 17 February
Railway Minister Piyush Goyal said that the train will ply from New Delhi to Varanasi.
Hinting at the fare of the train, the officials said that it will be almost 40-50 per cent higher than the Executive and Chair Class fares of the Shatabdi Express trains.
Besides the speed, Train 18 has an advanced array of features including energy-efficient coaches, which leaves less carbon footprint.
Having tarnished its image many times, Railways seems to have launched a massive effort for an image makeover as it has to face the elections next year.
Days before its first run, Train 18 was pelted with stones during a trial run between Delhi and Agra.
