In a statement published on social media, Disha Ravi recalled how she was not provided with a lawyer in the first hearing in court and sent to police custody.
Ravi has been directed to not leave the country and cooperate with the ongoing investigation as a condition for grant of bail.
Police only got one day custody of Ravi, though it had sought five days of custodial interrogation after police said she was required to be confronted with co-accused in the case which has transnational ramification. Ravi during interrogation shifted entire burden on two co-accused -Nikita Jacob and Shantanu Muluk~ who cannot be arrested because they are currently on transit bail
Dharmendra Rana, the Additional Sessions Judge of Patiala House Court heard the arguments of both the prosecution and defence for more than three hours and reserved the matter for Tuesday.
Disha Ravi has approached the Delhi High Court seeking a direction to the Delhi Police to not leak any investigation material in relation to the 'toolkit' case to the media.
Their rhetoric too is par for the course ~ the Congress president and leading lights have made it about freedom of speech and speaking truth to power, the Delhi chief minister has underlined Ms Ravi’s support for farmers as an alibi, and sundry online warriors have heaped abuse on the establishment for being “fascist”.
The relief was granted by Justice PD Naik, granting her protection from arrest for three weeks to enable her to approach the competent court or investigating officer. The high court had reserved its order on advocate Jacob when the matter was heard on Tuesday.
21-year-old activist Disha Ravi was arrested from Bengaluru on Saturday in connection with allegedly editing and sharing a “toolkit” on social media related to the farmers' protest and was sent to five days of police custody the next day.
Nikita Jacob, Shantanu Muluk, Disha Ravi and others collaborated together to draft the Toolkit document.
