The Tamil Nadu government announced late Tuesday night that employees of South Korean electronics giant, Samsung, have called off their 37-day-long strike at Sunguvarchatram plant. The primary demand for recognition of the CITU-affiliated union has been put on hold.
Though the demand for a share in power proved to be a storm in a tea cup with VCK president Thirumavalavan on Tuesday making it clear that there is no dissonance in the DMK alliance, the issue has ignited a debate putting the DMK on the defensive.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and ruling DMK President MK Stalin said on Saturday that there would be a change in his council of ministers, once again lending credence to reports of the impending elevation of his son and sports and youth welfare minister, Udhyanidhi Stalin, as his deputy in the government.
The minister, hailing from Karnataka, had filed the affidavit before the Madras High Court, apologising for her comments if they have hurt the Tamil people. She had said that the bombers were trained in Tamil Nadu.
The chief minister termed the neighbouring state’s stance a violation of the Supreme Court’s order and a betrayal of Tamil Nadu’s farmers.
It also sought direction to the Governor to dispose of all the bills, files and government orders forwarded to him by the state assembly within a specified timeframe.
Tamil Nadu government has decided to provide subsidy to bring cultivation of millets in fallow lands and crop diversification to millets in 50,000 acres under its Tamil Nadu Millet Mission, said the Minister for Agriculture M.R.K.Panneerselvam.
With the enrolments increasing, each school has more than 300 to 400 students leading to an increase of around 30 per cent students in each class.
Sources in the Tamil Nadu government told IANS that an average of Rs 7,000 crore will have to be provided if the retirement age is reverted back to 58 and hence the government is keeping quiet for the time being given the precarious financial position of the state treasury.
This is the third reshuffle of IPS officers after the M.K. Stalin government assumed office.
