The Ratapani wildlife sanctuary officially became the eighth tiger reserve of Madhya Pradesh on Friday, Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav inaugurated it by lighting a lamp and leading an environment and heritage conservation bike rally.
In a post on social media platform ‘X’, he said, “As India continues to touch new milestones in tiger conservation, we have notified Guru Ghasidas-Tamor Pingla in Chhattisgarh as the 56th tiger reserve. Guru Ghasidas-Tamor Pingla Tiger Reserve is spread over 2,829 sq km.”
The Chhattisgarh Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, has approved the establishment of the "Guru Ghasidas-Tamor Pingla Tiger Reserve".
21 members of the syndicate arrested and a huge cache of arms, ammunition was seized from Similipal Tiger Reserve.
The 11 male and 8 female deer were brought in a special truck from the Kanha National Park which is around 200 kilometres away from the tiger reserve.
Union Environment and Climate Change Minister Bhupendra Yadav has termed it as a meaningful initiative towards tiger conservation, it is the only reserve in the country.
The Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve under the jurisdiction of Eastern Assam Wildlife Division were reopened on Sunday for the 2022-23 season tourists.
The reserve has a total area of 1501.89 sqkm including a core area of 481.90 sq km and a buffer of 1019.98 sqkm, according to the notification.
