Setting aside the Madras High court order cancelling the bail, earlier granted to 'Sattai' Durai Murugan on November 2021, a bench observed that he could not be said to have misused the liberty granted to him.
"If this is about environmental concerns, why cannot the NGT (National Green Tribunal) hear it? Why should everything come directly to the Supreme Court," the bench asked.
Pronouncing the order that paved the way for the RSS to now go ahead with its public programmes and route marches across the state, the apex court declared, “All appeals dismissed.”
SC dismissed plea by TN government challenging the Madras High Court order, which allowed RSS to conduct a route march across the state.
The Tamil Nadu government had also appealed the Supreme Court against November 2022, order of the Madras High Court.
As the court was told in the last hearing of the matter on March 3, the Tamil Nadu government had offered to make some proposals to find a solution of the issue, but so far none has come.
