23-year-old law student of the Swami Shukdevanand Law College student in Shahjahanpur had accused Chinmayanand of blackmail and rape by posting a video message on the social media on August 23.
Swami Chinmayanand, the Mahamandaleshwar of the Maha Nirvani Akhara was arrested from his Mumuksha Ashram in Shahjahanpur by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the rape charges against him.
His arrest came after a complaint by the 23-year-old law student who had accused Chinmayanand of blackmail and rape by posting a video message on the social media on August 23.
The law student had earlier threatened to end her life if Chinmayanand was not arrested.
The law student had, on Saturday, given a pen drive containing 43 videos to the SIT to support her allegations after the sleuths asked her to submit whatever evidence she had against Chinmayanand.
The incident came to light when she went missing on August 24, a day after she uploaded a video on the social media seeking help from PM Modi and CM Yogi Adityanath.
Members of a special investigation team had on Tuesday searched the hostel room of the law student in Uttar Pradesh's Shahjahanpur.
The Supreme Court, which heard the girl in a closed hearing, had last week directed the UP government to constitute an SIT to probe into the allegations made against the BJP leader.
The girl student, who went missing after levelling sexual harassment charges against Chinmayanand, was later traced to Rajasthan on Friday and produced within hours before the Supreme Court.
