Vaze was produced before the Special Court by the NIA after his remand ended and the agency demanded a further week's custody of the accused as the probe into the conspiracy angles of both cases was in the final stages.
Vinayak Shinde, the jailed former cop currently on parole and cricket bookie Naresh Gaur were arrested by Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) on March 21 but the case was subsequently taken over by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on March 24.
The NIA took Vaze and a team of divers to the river's branch near the Bandra Kurla Complex where the articles crucial to the probe were said to be dumped weeks ago, and a search was launched.
Vaze, currently in NIA custody till Thursday, was seen entering the hotel where he spent at least five days in mid-February using some fake identity papers and the woman close behind him was noticed, baffling the investigators, official sources said.
However, Anil Deshmukh said on Saturday that the threads of the investigation being carried out against Sachin Vaze in the SUV case are leading to former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh.
Hitting back at Singh, Deshmukh tweeted that the ex-Mumbai police chief was leveling false allegations against him to save himself from action in the SUV case and the case related to the death of Mansukh Hiran.
The official said that they are collecting all the documents related to Hiren's death from the Mumbai Police and ATS.
Arrested Assistant Police Inspector (API) Sachin Vaze who is currently in NIA custody till March 25 was ferried to the spot and tried to play out the crime scene, as it could have happened.
"The NIA and ATS are investigating the matter in depth. The state government is fully cooperating with the NIA... Both their probes are proceeding in the right direction," informed Deshmukh.
The father-son duo has taken an offence at the manner in which senior Mumbai Police officer Sachin Vaze was posted to the Crime Branch.
