SC stays execution of Sambhal civic body’s notice on well near mosque’s entrance

Issuing notice to the state government on an application by the Committee of Management, Shahi Jama Masjid, which has sought direction to the Sambhal District Magistrate (DM) to ensure that status quo is maintained in respect to a well situated near the stairs/entrance of the mosque, a bench of Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Sanjay Kumar sought status report from the state government within two weeks.

SC to hear petitions challenging law on selection of CEC and ECs

The Supreme Court, on Wednesday, posted for February 4 a batch of petitions challenging validity of the Chief Election Commissioner and Other Election Commissioners (Appointment, Conditions of Service and Term of Office) Act 2023, that excludes the Chief Justice of India from a panel for the selection of the Chief Election Commissioner and the Election Commissioners and gives majority to the government in the selection process.

SC to CBI: Finish SSC probe in two months

The Supreme Court today handed the CBI a two months deadline to complete the probe in the teachers’ recruitment scam in Bengal. The apex court also returned the cases related to the SSC to Calcutta High Court.
