Terming it “punitive, arbitrary and illegal,” the Supreme Court on Friday set aside the termination of services of two women judicial officers in Madhya Pradesh in 2023 and directed their reinstatement, emphasising the importance of being sensitive to the gender-specific difficulties faced by women, while assessing their performance.

The top court also ruled that any circulars of arrest issued by the GST department must be strictly adhered to.
As sought by the solicitor general, the bench granted more time to the Centre to place on record its decision on deporting the foreign nationals declared residing illegally in Assam and posted the matter for hearing on March 21.
Notably, on June 19, the Minister had directed the submission of IIT Bombay's final report on the working of Smog Tower at Baba Kharak Singh Marg, New Delhi, to the Supreme Court.
The bench, led by Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud, reviewed the status reports submitted by both the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Kolkata Police regarding the ongoing investigation.
The Supreme Court on Tuesday set aside a Calcutta High Court judgment, which had advised “adolescent girls to control their sexual urges”, and restored the conviction of an accused, charged of sexually assaulting a minor girl and later marrying her.
The matter will be heard by a bench comprising Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud, Justice J.B. Pardiwala and Justice Manoj Misra.
The Supreme Court will pronounce on Tuesday its verdict in a suo moto case concerning the right to privacy of adolescents in the wake of “sweeping observations” made in a Calcutta High Court ruling advising “adolescent girls to learn how to control their sexual urges.”
