The Supreme Court on Thursday directed the states falling in the National Capital Region to constitute teams of officials from police and revenue departments to ensure strict enforcing of the measures under Stage 4 of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) to combat and curb air-pollution in the national capital.
Terming the restrictions as “impractical”, the Supreme Court on Thursday put on hold the Kerala High Court's order on the use of elephants and observing distances between them, the public, flambeau, and the percussion display during festival parades, including the ‘Thrissur Pooram”.
The Supreme Court will expand its focus on air pollution to other cities in India during a hearing scheduled for Thursday.
Cautioning the Punjab authorities on the repercussions if anything untoward happens to the farmers leader, a bench of Justice Surya Kant and Justice Ujjal Bhuyan said, “The entire state machinery will be blamed if something untoward happens.
The petition contends that offering freebies in the run-up to elections unfairly sways voters and calls for such promises to be treated as bribes.
On 30 September, the Supreme Court during hearing had put on record that “… all doctors have resumed duties and shall perform essential services including IPD and OPD”.
The apex court transfers the case from the Madras High Court to itself.
The petitioners allege a "wilful violation" of the court’s directive from September 17, 2024, which mandated a nationwide halt on demolitions unless cleared by the court.
The court further said that if Senthil Balaji seeks adjournment on “non-existing or frivolous grounds” or “creates hurdles” in the early disposal of cases, the bail granted to him shall be liable to be cancelled.
