A former Punjab Congress president, who left the party in May 2022 after a five-decade association of his clan, Jakhar, a Hindu Jat, is expected to help the party shed its image of an urban party in the state.
A1985-batch former Tamil Nadu cadre IAS officer, Jagmohan Singh Raju (59), joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Punjab before the February 2022 Assembly polls after 35 years of service.
Amid speculation on Ashok Gehlot's replacement as Rajasthan Chief Minister following his bid for Congress presidency, former Punjab Congress chief Sunil Jakhar, who had joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in May, took a jibe at the Congress party and questioned: "who will be the Channi of Rajasthan?"
BJP's national president JP Nadda inducted Sunil Jakhar into the party at the national headquarters in the national capital today.
