Former Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab Sukhbir Singh Badal was reinstated as the President of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Sunday. Badal, who had stepped down from the position last year, was re-elected unopposed.

Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Sukhbir Singh Badal Wednesday narrowly escaped an assassination attempt when a gunman tried to shoot him inside the Golden Temple premises in Punjab's Amritsar.
The shooter targeted the former Punjab deputy chief minister while performing "seva" at the shrine as part of a religious punishment pronounced by the Shri Akal Takht Sahib.
