The decision of the state government came in the wake of public outrage over the construction of an alleged multi-story mosque at Sanjauli in the suburbs of Shimla town.
In a decision aimed towards empowering street vendors and improving their overall working conditions, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced a survey facilitating the allocation of designated spaces for them to set up their shops.
The Minister was speaking at PM SVANidhi Mega Camp here. As part of this event, loans were distributed to 10,000 street vendors.
The Union housing and urban affairs minister reiterated government’s commitment to creating supportive & empowering environment for them.
Khattar said fairs will be organised to provide loans to street vendors with an objective to motivate them to grow their businesses.
"This year we have invited mortuary workers, street vendors, Anganwadi workers and Mudra Scheme loanees as special guests for the 15th August Independence Day celebrations," Defence Secretary Dr Ajay Kumar said.
In the first wave of the pandemic last year, BMC had extended helping hands to petty traders and street vendors, he added.
Speaking on the occasion, the Prime Minister praised the efforts of the street vendors to bounce back and appreciated their self-confidence, perseverance and hard work.
Further widening the definition of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME), the Union Cabinet on Monday announced that entities with turnover up to Rs 250 crore or investment up to Rs 50 crore will qualify as medium enterprises.
