The department has warned the bus operators of stern action as per Motor Vehicles Act if the owners fail to adhere to the official rate chart. The bus operators, on the contrary, have said that running services at the official rate chart, is very difficult amid the soaring petrol prices.
The system is to be installed in the government buses first, in the next six months or so. The system will later be expanded to the private buses and the goods carrying vehicles.
The three fleets will be plying through different roads in the city on a trial basis first and then carry passengers after getting clearance from agencies authorized by the Centre. CNG burns cleaners as compared with traditional petrol and diesel-run cars and buses.
