Women-led startups in India are making a global mark, and they hold the promise to realise the Viksit Bharat goal, said Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Science & Technology on Monday.
In order to boost the startup ecosystem in the apparel manufacturing industry, the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has signed a MoU with the Bhaane Group, a subsidiary of Shahi Exports Pvt Ltd, the largest manufacturer of apparel.
From 2016 to October 31, 2024, recognised startups have reportedly created over 16.6 lakh direct jobs, significantly contributing to employment generation.
These startups have created over 1.6 million jobs across the country, demonstrating their role as significant employment generators.
The Union minister said over the last nine years, the country has made rapid strides in every area of Science & Technology.
The minister said India had no dearth of talent, capability, innovation and creativity in the youth, but they were lacking a favourable milieu and proper patronage from the political leadership which was provided by Prime Minister Modi.
Deputy Chief Minister of the state Dushyant Chautala, who also holds the portfolio of industries and commerce department, said the state government has budgeted for a venture capital fund of Rs 200 crore to support young people starting businesses.
This is essential not only for sustaining the startups in the long run by linking them with a livelihood but also for bringing about value addition to the Indian Industry as per the contemporary global benchmarks, Jitendra Singh said.
India and Lithuania on Tuesday agreed to work in the areas of deep tech startups as well as forge lasting ties in manufacturing of semiconductor chips.
