The statistics published by the Department of Tourism in 2020 show that 171,937 people among the total number of tourists who visited Nepal came for mountaineering and trekking purposes. Even though the number of mountaineers and trekkers is on the rise, no study has been done to determine whether the current number of mountaineering staff is sufficient to handle the growing number of mountaineers.
The order issued by the officer on special duty (OSD), nursing, on 11 January stated, to augment human resources for covid management & as per instruction of Indian Nursing Council, if need arises, the nursing students can also be roped to handle the crisis, as per their level of skills & training under direct supervision of Clinical Nurse/Clinical Instructors/Tutors/ Nursing Teachers.”
External Affairs Ministry noted that the sanctioned strength of the ministry was 8,208, while the working strength was 7,012
