An official spokesperson of the VB said the arrest has been made after the investigation in the first information report (FIR) on 21 February 2023 under Sections 406, 420, 465, 467, 468, 471, 384, 120-B of IPC registered at Police Station Punjab State Crime, SAS Nagar.

The state Police Department said the case is still under investigation with the SIT still obtaining more relevant documents and also examining a number of individuals connected with the case.

The accused nabbed have been arrested 91 from Kangra, 23 Mandi, 20 Solan , 8 Una, 3 Kullu, 3 Bilaspur, 15 Hamirpur, 3 Chamba and 5 Sirmour.
Shah also referred to his facing arrest in Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case, in which he was subsequently acquitted, and said no "dharna" was carried out.
Eyewitness account said at least six people were killed on the spot. The unfortunate incident could be a case of the 'mistaken identity' of the victims.
