It was Lando Norris who started the race at pole but lost the lead in the very first corner when he went too wide trying to block a charging Verstappen giving surprise contender George Russell the space to move from P4 to P1. Lando Norris fell to P3 just seconds later and fell behind the Red Bull.
The action will begin on Saturday from 4:00 pm with the qualifying race followed by the main race on Sunday from 2:30 pm on Eurosport and Eurosport HD.
Sergio Aguero will join Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois and Barcelona footballer Arthur Melo in Sunday's upcoming virtual Spanish Grand Prix.
Red Bull's Max Verstappen came third, followed by Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel of Germany in fourth.
