Long queues were seen outside the polling booths in South Kashmir even before polling started at 7 am.
Cherry, almond and walnut orchards have also suffered extensive damage. Paddy crop has fallen flat in the fields, they said.
The injured soldiers were evacuated to the military hospital but two of the critically injured succumbed to their wounds, reports said.
Over the last two months, South Kashmir has been hit by militancy; our frontline warriors from the army are engaged in fighting insurgents. Young officers and jawans have laid down their lives.
The two encounters broke out in the Hardumir area of Tral and Chowgam in Shopian. Two terrorists were killed in each of these encounters. The encounter in Tral lasted a few minutes.
People gathered at the encounter spot and a couple of women raised slogans. However, the situation was brought under control.
GOC Chinar Corps and all ranks on Thursday laid wreaths on the mortal remains of the braveheart, Rifleman Shakir Manzoor Wagay of 162 Infantry Battalion(Territorial Army) at the Srinagar based Chinar Corps War Memorial.
“At about 6.05 pm, terrorists fired at a police personnel, identified as Bantoo Sharma (Follower) of Wanpoh, and injured him,” police said.
He was shifted to a hospital where doctors declared him dead.
