Long queues were seen outside the polling booths in South Kashmir even before polling started at 7 am.
Cherry, almond and walnut orchards have also suffered extensive damage. Paddy crop has fallen flat in the fields, they said.
The injured soldiers were evacuated to the military hospital but two of the critically injured succumbed to their wounds, reports said.
Over the last two months, South Kashmir has been hit by militancy; our frontline warriors from the army are engaged in fighting insurgents. Young officers and jawans have laid down their lives.
Talking to reporters in South Kashmir’s Kulgam, Dr Abdullah said,“I have no expectations from the visit of the Defence Minister. Can he bring back the three people who were killed in Poonch” and asked “Does he have that power?”
Identity of the killed terrorists was being ascertained. Search operation is underway in the area and further details are awaited.
The Kashmir Police have initiated an investigation into the explosion but ruled out the terrorist angle to the incident.
On his visit to Anantnag, the DGP chaired a high-level meeting of police, Army and CRPF officers to review the security scenario in the wake of targeted terror strikes at migrant labourers and ongoing Amaranth pilgrimage.
As per the agency, in Anantnag, five locations have been raided, in Kulgam there is one while in Shopian, there are four locations that were raided.
