Members of the All India Students Association (AISA), protesting outside Ladakh Bhawan in support of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk on Sunday were taken away by the police before being released soon after.
A senior police official said the protesters who were detained were taken to Mandir Marg police station and were later released.
Climate activist Sonam Wangchuck has intensified his protest against the lack of response from the government to his long-standing demand for statehood and the inclusion of Ladakh in the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution.
Hours after climate activist Sonam Wangchuck was released from detention, he remains in isolation at Ladakh Bhawan here, heavily guarded by a joint force of Delhi Police, Jammu and Kashmir Police and CISF. A recipient of the Ramon Magsaysay Award, he is currently restricted from receiving visitors, with only a few exceptions allowed.
"Our fate is unknown. We were on a most peaceful march to Bapu's Samadhi... In the largest democracy in the world, the mother of democracy... Hai Ram!," he wrote in a late night spcial media post.
Over a hundred volunteers led by climate activist Sonam Wangchuk on Sunday started a foot march from Leh to New Delhi to urge the government to resume the stalled dialogue with the leadership of Ladakh on their four-point agenda.
The climate activist has given the call for the march to LAC to draw the attention of the people to the plight of the Pashmina goat herders of the eastern frontier region of Changthang.
Wangchuk has already warned that the people will go to jail if the march is stopped by the authorities.
A video on the reformist's private YouTube channel showed scores of locals joining his protest site.
