The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Sunday along with forensic officials reached nightclub 'Curlies' in Anjuna for investigation where actor and BJP leader Sonali Phogat was allegedly drugged and was later declared dead.
The move came after Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant recommended a CBI probe into the case as per demand of Phogat's daughter and people of Haryana.
The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Monday gave its nod to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to take over the probe into the suspicious death of BJP leader Sonali Phogat in Goa.
On Sunday, a Khap Mahapanchayat was held in Hisar demanding a CBI inquiry into the death of Sonali Phogat.
In a statement to the media, the CM stated that he will request the Home Minister to turn the investigation to CBI because of the request Sonali’s family members made, particularly her daughter.
Reiterating that Goa Police are conducting a thorough investigation, Sawant said that if Khattar continues with his request to hand over the case to the CBI, then the state government will think over it.
Earlier on Saturday, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar assured Sonali Phogat's family of a CBI probe into the actor's death.
Before leaving for Goa, Phogat and Sangwan had parked their TATA safari vehicle in the society and took a taxi to the airport.
The Goa Police on Friday arrested Sudhir Sangwan -- the personal assistant of Sonali Phogat, along with Sukhwinder Singh, in connection with the murder case of the Haryana BJP leader and TikTok star.
"When confronted, Sukhwinder and Sudhir confessed that they intentionally mixed an obnoxious chemical into a liquid and made the victim drink it," IGP Omvir Singh Bishnoi said.
